  • Runners follow a point-to point loop course that starts on Letter S Road in Alton and finishes in Alton Bay in front of Shibley’s at the Pier.  Along the way runners are treated to spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The course then winds through pine-covered forest along the lake with quaint cottages and quiet roads. Once back on the main road it is only a few more miles of gently rolling hills. Finish at Shibley’s and enjoy a Smuttynose beer, some Jordan’s Ice Cream, Pizza and more while you relax and enjoy the post-race entertainment.

When and where is this race?
The Big Lake Half Marathon takes place on Saturday May 9, 2015. This race begins in Alton, NH and travels along the southwest side of Lake Winnipesaukee with spectacular views of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Runners then enjoy the quiet and forested shoreline before rolling to finish in front of Shibley’s at the Pier in Alton Bay, NH.

Where do I pick up my race number?
All race registration/ packet pickup takes place at the Alton Central School on School Street in Alton, NH. For registration times please go to Event Information/ Race Details for more information.
Where do I park for the race?

There are many places to park in the area; however, here is a list of the official race parking areas. All of the following parking areas will be served by the race Shuttle before and after the race.

Is there a shuttle service?
Yes, we provide shuttle service for both participants and spectators. The shuttle service begins at 7:30 a.m. to take spectators to the finish area. It then travels between the finish area and the parking areas. Our shuttle service runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 
Is there a bag drop?

Yes, we provide a bag drop/ bag pickup service for all participants. A truck will be located at the end of Letter S Road, near the start of the race. We will supply bags and markers at the Alton Central School as well as at the Bag Drop area near the start of the race (Letter S Road).

Please mark your bags with your race number and your name using the markers provided. Volunteers will fill the trucks and then hand out bags at the end of the race. All participants must show either their race number or form of identification to receive their bag after the race.

Please secure your bag as we are not responsible for items that fall out of bags during transport. 

Is there a Post-Race party?
Absolutely, we have partnered with Smuttynose Beer, Jordan’s Ice Cream Dominos Pizza, and others to create a great after-party. We also provide two free beer tickets for all participants (21 years old and older).
Is there beer after the race?
Yes, we have partnered with Smuttynose Beer to provide great tasting beer as part of our after-party. 
How many aid stations are on the course?
We have seven (7) aid stations on the course. Each aid station will have water and electrolytes. We will also have Gu energy gels on the course. 
What is included at the aid stations?
All seven (7) aid stations will have water and electrolyte drink provided. We will also have Gu energy gels at one stop.
Are head phones, ear buds, i-pods allowed during the race?
For safety reasons, we discourage the use of head phones, ear buds, i-pods during the race. Our course marshals and police officers may need to provide safety information during the race so it is best to have your ears free to hear.
Are baby strollers allowed on the course?
No, baby strollers are not allowed on the course. 
Are pets allowed on the course?
No, pets of any kind are not allowed on the course. In addition, please do not leave animals in cars during the race. 
What will the weather be like in Alton in May?
Alton, NH experiences generally mild weather each year in May. However, just to be safe, and because it is New England, we find that anything is possible in regards to weather. The average temperature (F) is 54.7 degrees with average highs in the mid-60s and average lows in the mid-40s. 
Is there an age limit to this race?
No, we allow anyone to run this race. With that said, you should be prepared and cleared to run this distance. Minors will be required to have a parent/ guardian signature to participate in this race.
Is there a time limit to this race?
Yes, we have set a four (4) hour time limit to this event. We have done so based on average half marathon times, staffing, police and most importantly safety. 
Where is it best to watch the race?
There are a number of good places to watch this race. The best place is the finish area in front of Shibley’s at the Pier. This vantage point allows for viewing as the runners pass mile 1.5 and then again at the finish. 
What are the race amenities?
Each participant will receive a custom-designed race number, short sleeve tech tee, finisher’s medal, race sticker, and a great after-party. The after party is for participants only and includes pizza, beer, ice cream, and other food items and plenty of water. 
What are the awards for this race?
The top five (5) overall finishers (5 each: male and female) will receive a Big Lake custom designed maple syrup bottle. All age group winners will receive similar Big Lake maple syrup awards.  
What are the age groups for this race?

We provide prizes for the top three female and males in each age division. The age divisions are broken into 5 year increments. They are as follows:
